What is REACH?
REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) took effect on June 1st, 2007. This regulation aims at protecting human health and the environment by improving the knowledge of chemical hazards along the supply chain.
All European companies that manufacture or import more than one ton per year of a chemical substance, must register it via the European Chemical Agency (ECHA). The registration file contains physical, chemical, toxicological and eco-toxicological data as well as a human health and environmental risk assessment for all the applications of the substance along the entire the supply chain.
The deadline for registering a pre-registered substance and the quantity of test results to be sent to ECHA depends on its annual production and inherent hazards.
Deadline for registration | Products |
December 1st, 2010 | Volume > 1000 t/y R50/53* with volume > 100 t/y CMR* 1 & 2 with volume > 1 t/y |
June 1st, 2013 | Volume > 100 t/y |
June 1st, 2018 | Volume > 1t/y |
* R50/53: Very toxic to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects on the aquatic environment * CMR: Carcinogenic, Mutagenic, or Reprotoxic
REACH at NYCO
NYCO is committed to taking all the actions required to ensure compliance with the new regulations, by participating in various professional groups and consortia, and working in cooperation with suppliers and customers.
All the substances we manufacture and which require registration have been pre-registered.
The substances eligible for 2010, 2013 and 2018 registrations were successfully registered. We are now focusing on updating the files submitted and on new substances registration.
Alongside REACH, we notified substances subject to CLP (Classification, Labelling and Packaging) in the Classification and Labelling Inventory, and will continue this process as required by this regulation.
Global inventories
Beyond REACH, other chemical regulations are applicable across the world and are constantly evolving. We work continuously to make sure that our products comply with those regulations, and are listed on global chemical inventories in order to meet customers’ requirements.
